🧐 The field of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is growing at a rapid pace. That’s why it is important that we let ourselves continue learning about it. Naomi is full of passion and wisdom, I am sure you’ll have many key takeaways from this conversation.

It’s a good idea that you familiarize yourself with what’s the latest with Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT). Every patient needs to be looked at from a variety of approaches in order to be successful in treatment.

Entrepreneurship 101 – Get Your Business Plan Worksheet!

Do you ever wonder how is it like to be an Entrepreneur?

Do you want to have your own business? Do you want to do something for yourself? Do you want to earn more? Of course you do! We all do! If you are reading this post, you are probably already having something brewing in your head.

In 2014, when I graduated from dental hygiene school. I went through the challenge of studying for the national dental hygiene board exam (we know how painful that is!) and knew that a new boards review solution was needed.

Fast forward 2019, StudentRDH is one of the top choices for anyone studying for their boards. And many other businesses stemmed our this one idea too:

  • SmarterDA: Dental assisting exam prep
  • DentalToaster: CE online
  • WakeUp Memory: Systems to improve your brain
  • Inspire the Future Summit: Dental hygiene educators’ conference

Along the way, I picked up some really important skills that can help anyone become an entrepreneur. Of course, I will have many decades to hustle, but I have a feeling that I will not stop. The journey is painful, but it is rewarding. It is similar to going to dental hygiene school. There are an endless amounts of tests and hurdles along the way.

Some challenges involve money, people, or ideas. Some days, we wanted to throw the towel, scream at people, and give up. But the light at the end of the tunnel is so bright, and most of use, RDHs do not regret going to school and getting that degree.

Entrepreneurship is similar!

In my course, I talked about the harsh reality. And what they call “the valley of death.” Isn’t that scary? there is literally a term in business that is called the “valley of death.” But look at the beautiful uphill that you see after the nightmare?Dental hygiene business dentaltoaster

It just means that you have to hold on to your seat belt really tight and keep moving. But you can only continue if you believe in your value 100000%. If you have doubts about yourself, you would want to get out of the darkness and quit. That’s why we need a business plan. Here, I would like to share my favorite “small” business plan exercise.

It is called the “Lean Canvas model!

Adopted by millions of entrepreneurs around the world. Before you write your 50 pages business plan, start here, start small, with the minimum.

Everything fits into one page and you will everything component that moves the business clearly. Then, if you want, to can make a more elaborate business plan.

Take an hour to go to your favorite coffee shop. Give yourself permission to plan your future.

Try this exercise, Click Here!

I hope to see you extra super successful! And my email is ClaireJ@DentalToaster.com if you want a 20 mins free consultation.

With lots of encouragement,

Claire, MS, RDH

Amber Auger, MPH, RDH on “Money talk, pay off your loans” ?

Let us all get to the very basic of loaning and how to save your money. Honestly, loans aren’t as simple that. ? Don’t worry because Amber and DentalToaster CEO and Founder Claire Jeong, MS, RDH will be breaking everything down for you. ?

It’s a good idea that you familiarize yourself with what’s available, especially with regards to loans and your money. Learn all about Money management and paying debt!

Student to RDH, What Do I Need To Know? ?

You may have a million questions in your head as you are ready to take off (and say goodbye school!). ? I have been there and I can tell you from my experience that if you are not prepared, the real world can be TOUGH.

I call it the real world because school, was honestly NOT what you will see in a dental practice. At school, you learn the gold standards. And hopefully, you continue with the best practices you learned. However, there is so much more to learn.

? Nod quietly if you asked yourself the following questions:

  • How do get my license
  • Do I need insurance before I apply for a job?
  • How do I apply for a job and what do I put on my resume?
  • I was told that new grads get taken advantage of, how do I prevent that?
  • How do I speak professionally to my new employer, so he/she respects?
  • How do I track my production so make sure that I get paid correctly and how ask for a raise down the road?
  • Should start temping or should I apply for a full-time job?
  • I heard that we will need CE credits. What are they and how do I get them?
  • What if I want to do more – teach, volunteer, etc.?

If you can say “yes I had those questions and I still don’t have answers,” this webinar is for YOU!

No one has ever compiled a webinar series just for the new grads, ever! ?

We did a survey and hundreds of students wanted to find answers. So, we decided to make it an official:

Floss is #3 in inderdental care

Floss this, floss that, more floss, floss is everything… It seems like floss will save the world. That’s what we usually hear and believe. But there is so much more to interdental care than floss.

These messages are from Michelle Strange BSDH, RDH, international speaker and famous host of A Tale of Two Hygienists.

Then what else is above floss?

One of the options is interdental brush. That is not something we are used to if we are a new grad or worked with the habit of talking mainly about floss. The course Floss is NOT everything. Consider interdental brush and oral irrigation does NOT discount the usefulness of flossing.

But it show meta-analysis that can open our options to interdental care options that may be more beneficial than floss, such as the interdental brush.

Here is a short guideline on how you can BEST “Prescribe” the right shape/size interdental brush for your patients.

Enjoy!

Hiring: Writer/editor for our newsletter

Hello fellow dental professional,

To share with you, we have thousands of users and subscribers at DentalToaster. Our main focus is to provide quality CE courses, that are consistent (like you would expect your toaster to grill you the perfect piece of bread), and fun.

And to add even more value, we would like to send some awesome newsletters to all of our subscribers. This is what I am currently thinking:

  • There will be sections in the newsletters (NEW news, public health, wellness, HOT news, etc.)
  • The way the newsletter is written will be more “personal” and fun, not like the articles in magazines.
  • We can feature magazine articles from various sources too, to not be biased. The writer can add his/her own twist and interpretation.
  • This will NOT be a research-based paper.

The goal? To be THE fun newsletter dental hygiene needs

My inspiration for DentalToaster Newsletters comes from this famous newsletter called the HUSTLE. Their fantastic team digests business news and rewrite them in informative and extremely humorous manners. People like me learn and laugh at the same time. For this reason, they have millions of subscribers and have BIG silicon valley investors backing them up. Can we create something this exciting in dentistry? I hope so…

Think about it, what if dentistry news could be like that?

So what do we need?

  • A writer who is deeply informed about the dental world and knows what’s up every month/week.
  • OR writers who can occasionally write sections.
  • An editor who can combine the sections and make a fun newsletter.

Our audience at DentalToaster is young. We have thousands (even more) of the new generation of RDHs and DMDs.

If you are interested in a position as 1) a writer or a section 2) an editor for the entire newsletter 3) writer for the entire newsletter,

How to apply? -????

  1. Send to ClaireJ@dentaltoaster.com a summary (3-10 sentences) or your favorite dental related article, product, TedTalk, etc. that happened within the past 30 days.
  2. Schedule a call with me here. We are hiring immediately.
  3. Send to ClaireJ@dentaltoaster.com your bio and any other material that can help us understand your skills.
  4. Leave us your email.

Have a wonderful week,

Claire MS, RDH (Founder of DentalToaster CE online)

Most Commonly Asked Questions – For Dental Interviews

Did you claim your cheatsheet?

On the day of the interview, you need to be on your best performance. If you were auditioning for a movie, you would need to remember the lines by heart and appear most suited for the role. The same thing is true for an interview. Most of us are not generally born with a natural talent to speak and charm others. We have to prepare in advance and take the time to hone our answers.

Interview questions can be divided into four categories: experience, character, fit, and knowledge. In other words, the employer wants to know:

  1. If you have the depth of experience for the position
  2. If your personality matches the office
  3. If you can contribute to the office
  4. If you know what you are doing and why.

Some of the most commonly asked questions could include:

  • What duties did you perform in your last job?
  • Are you more comfortable leading or following?
  • Why should I hire you?
  • How would you handle a situation where the patient is difficult?
  • How long have you been practicing?

Some questions will be vague and tough to answer, such as “why dental hygiene?” The best way to be ready for this critical day is to practice as many questions as possible. That way, when you get asked those questions, you are ready with the right answer.

But what if you get a question that you did not rehearse? The good news is, you will be armed with lots of answers that you prepared for other questions, so you will quickly be able to put some parts of answers together. Just like making a quilt, you have many pieces that are available to you, to use as you see fit.
